Smile and smell

Au coin du feu, that's me… or rather, that's us!

I pour my candles by hand, in Brussels, into Jesmonite vessels I shape myself: never two quite alike. Plant wax, wooden wick, fragrances from Grasse.

What goes into every candle

Creating candles that combine quality and respect for the environment (and they're pretty! What more could you ask for)

Plant wax

European soy wax for the candles, rapeseed wax for the hangers. I chose them for a clean burn and a lighter footprint.

Jesmonite vessels

A water-based mineral resin, low impact and hard-wearing. Washable and reusable: plant pot, pen pot, toothbrush holder.

Wooden wick

Maple wood on my large candle: a soft crackle when lit, like a real wood fire.

Fragrances from Grasse

Made in the world capital of perfume. Free of CMR substances and compliant with European standards.

The magic

Our daughter, and our finest handmade project. She is the magic and the love behind Au coin du feu.

My story

From a kit my husband gave me, to a studio of my own.

It all started when my husband gave me a candle kit to take my mind off a hard stretch. I got hooked. Love at first pour. But the standard vessels never felt right.

So I had an idea: why not make them myself? After a stubborn search I discovered Jesmonite, the material that now lets me create truly unique vessels, never two alike.

Alexandra
I don't do big batches. I'd rather have a few creations I know by heart than twenty I'd rush.

Frequently asked

Before you strike a match.

What is Jesmonite? Jesmonite is a water-based mineral resin, solvent free, low impact and very hard-wearing. I cast and sand each vessel by hand, then pour the candle into it. Once the candle is finished, the vessel washes and gets a second life.
Is every vessel really unique? Yes. The vessels are Jesmonite, I pour and sand them by hand: no two pieces are ever perfectly identical.
What are Au coin du feu candles made of? European soy wax for the candles, rapeseed wax for the hangers, a maple wood or cotton and paper wick, and fragrances made in Grasse, free of CMR substances and compliant with European standards.
How do I light it the first time? Let it burn for about two hours on the first light, so the wax melts across the whole surface. That sets an even burn for the rest of its life.
Do I need to trim the wick? Yes, pinch off the charred tip before each light, leaving about 3 to 5 mm. Less soot, a steadier flame.
How long should I burn it in one go? Four hours maximum, then let it cool. Burn time runs from 10 to 50 hours depending on the format.
What do I do with the vessel afterwards? Keep it. Warm water and a little soap remove the last of the wax: it becomes a plant pot, a pen pot, a toothbrush holder.
Where can I buy Au coin du feu candles? Online, by email at hello@aucoindufeu-bougie.be or by Instagram DM (@au_coin_dufeu), and in store at Haut les cœurs in Brussels, Lära Concept Store in Ixelles, Bouquinerie Simone in La Hulpe and Algo Store, a Belgian shop for stylish clothes, in Namur.
How do I order? By email or through Instagram DM. I confirm availability, then arrange payment and delivery. Making time is usually about a week. I deliver within Belgium only for now.

Ordering happens by hand, like my candles.

Write to me or send me a DM: tell me the piece and the quantity, I confirm availability and sort out payment and delivery.
